1.6.3 Flocculation Tanks

In the Flocculation Tank, chemical mixed water shall be gently stirred to promote the growth of flocs to a size that can be removed by gravity settling in a sedimentation tank. Alum mixed water shall be fed in to the Flocculation tank through a pipe located at its center. Other end of the pipe shall be connected to the Clarifier Feed Channel.

Low speed turbine type mechanical mixers hanging from the top bridge shall carry out the gentle mixing in the Flocculation tank. The flocculation tank shall be constructed concentric with the Clarifier. A diffuser wall with numerous openings shall separate the flocculation and clarifier tanks. Flocs laden water shall enter Clarifier through the diffuser openings.
